Panda Panpan

Panda Panpan was the official mascot of the 1990 Beijing Asian Games. During the 11th Asian Games, Panpan, depicted holding a gold medal and in a running pose, became a regular presence across media, deeply imprinting itself in the hearts of the Chinese people.

Panpan was not only a famous panda in China but also internationally renowned. In fact, Panpan represented the China Wildlife Conservation Association during a six-month visit to the U.S., creating a sensation along the West Coast. Local residents would wait in line for five hours just to catch a three-minute glimpse of her.

The panda Panpan was a central symbol of the largest continental multi-sport event China had hosted at the time. Even today, many still fondly remember the 1990 Asian Games. Sadly, the real panda that inspired Panpan, named Basi, passed away in 2017 at the age of 37.

Panda Jingjing

Jingjing, one of the “Fuwa” mascots for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was inspired by the panda. The lotus flower design on Jingjing’s head drew inspiration from the Song Dynasty porcelain art.

The mascot design process for the Beijing Olympics began in 2004, and on November 11, 2005, the Beijing Organizing Committee revealed the Olympic mascots.

Jingjing symbolized harmony between humans and nature, conveying messages of friendship, peace, and the importance of coexistence between people and the environment to children worldwide.

Bing Dwen Dwen

Bing Dwen Dwen was the official mascot of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. This unique mascot combined the image of a panda with a super-energetic icy shell. The outer shell, which resembled a snow sports helmet, featured a rainbow-colored halo, making the panda look like an astronaut.

The word “Bing” symbolizes purity and strength, highlighting the key traits of the Winter Olympics. “Dwen Dwen” reflects the panda’s plump, lovable nature, and suggests the strength and endurance of the athletes, embodying the spirit of the Olympic Games.

Bing Dwen Dwen represented the pursuit of excellence, innovation, and infinite possibilities, reflecting a future-oriented outlook while honoring the Olympic values.

Panda Rongbao

Rongbao was the mascot for the 31st Summer World University Games, taking place in Chengdu. The design was based on the panda “Zhima” from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Rongbao holds a torch with the number “31” and features elements inspired by Sichuan opera masks, with flame-like shapes on its ears, eyes, and tail.

Rongbao, depicted in a running pose, represents youth and vitality, symbolizing Chengdu’s role in hosting the games and bringing together athletes from around the world to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.
